I finished a couple of sketches for the Next Generation School commission project I'm working on...they started out as pencil drawings, then I took a picture of them and uploaded that onto my computer...where I used a pen and tablet plus photoshop to shade them...

Ok, one more thing...just got my acceptance letter from Broad Ripple Art Fair today!!! and I made it in (yay!) I love this art fair...it will be taking place on May 17, 18, and 19...the 17th is a Friday, and I believe that is just an evening thing or a "preview party". I have a couple more art shows I'm waiting to hear from, so I'll be updating that page on my website as time goes on...
Two posts in one day...wow...that's amazing for me :) These pictures are from the Next Generation School in Champaign...they recently purchased 3 of my paintings from Wind Water and Light Gallery and are looking to commission a fourth to go in the hall with the large painting (shown below with DNA/book/globe/bird). I'm currently working on drawing some sketches/ideas for the new painting and then will go from there...so I will post some more updates on this project as it progresses...
This painting is sort of based on the idea of man's last hour, not in a religious way at all, but in reality, we're destroying our planet and at the same time our own lives, our kids lives, and humanity's future as a whole. There is fire, a clock, and horses running/succumbing to the chaos...the earth is in the far background...trees are falling down to the left, and flood waters are rising. The door in the top left hand corner symbolizes our escape...there will be a light shining out around the edges of it...escape to where...who knows :)
This painting is 24x36 (I think) on stretched canvas. When I close my eyes at night In search of my freedom Yes, I'm still here :) I've got some new paintings finished, just in the process of getting them photographed and uploaded to my website...I'm also reentering the art fair world this year, my first application will go out today and I have a couple more shows in mind I'm going to be applying to in the next month or so...
So keep on the lookout for some new work, new posts, and maybe I'll get to see you at one of the art fairs this summer!! I'm super excited :) Its time to start blogging again since I finally am getting back to painting after a long semester at school. This is the most recent painting I've finished, probably the first one since last year some time, but it feels really good to take a break from painting every once in a while, after all, I've pretty much been producing paintings in one style or another since 2007. Anyways, I feel like this one turned out really well and is loose and somewhat abstract...
I have a solo show starting October 6th through the end of the month at Wind Water and Light Gallery in Urbana. My reception night is Oct. 14th from 6pm to 8 pm.
Everyone is welcome to stop by and see my paintings on display at any time during the month...their hours are Tues-Thurs 10am-6pm Fri 10am-8pm and Sat 8am-6pm. Everyone is also welcome reception night when I will be there from 6pm to 8pm. For directions: windwaterlight.com Sign up to attend reception night: http://www.facebook.com/editprofile.php?sk=entertainment&success=1#!/event.php?eid=238269809555875 This is the start of the painting where everything has been drawn out on the canvas using pencil, and I'm starting to add some very thin paint washes... more thinned out paint... same.. so finally the whole painting has been coated in one thin wash of paint and is ready for more coats... The finished painting with a minimum of 3 layers of paint in some areas and as much as 4-5 layers in others. Each layer has to dry completely before being covered by another coat which makes the process a bit time consuming, but since the paint is thinned out so much it doesn't take too terribly long. This was a great project to work on and I'm extremely happy with the results...hopefully it will bring some kind of joy to the children stuck in a hospital. |
